Prior to his career in mediation, Jeff practiced corporate, commercial, civil litigation and real estate law for 21 years. In that capacity, Jeff handled a wide range of involved cases relating to breach of commercial agreements, wrongful dismissal claims, real estate and commercial leasing breaches and defaults, financing and secured loans enforcement, professional liability claims, partnership and shareholder disputes and corporate dissolutions, insurance claims and litigation, franchising claims, will and estate disputes environmental and pollution claims and copyright infringements. Jeff has appeared as lead counsel at both the trial and appeal levels and before numerous regulatory and licensing boards.

Recently, Jeff presented a paper at the Law Society of Upper Canada's conference on Debtor-Creditor Law on "Creative Strategies for Mediation Collection Cases Under the New Practice Direction." He has also presented at the Canadian Bar Association, Civil Litigation/ADR (NS) on "Mediation and Interest Based Negotiation in Litigation." He has taught and written materials on commercial landlord and tenant law for the N.S. Bar Admission Course and acted as monitor for the real estate practice area. He has taught contract and commercial law at the ADR Institute of Ontario and for a federal "Self Employment Assistance" program.

Jeff has achieved a high rate of settlement in over 2,500 mediated cases, resolving about 4 out of 5 cases. He has the key qualities required in a mediator, including broad-ranging experience, ability to understand complex issues, persistence, problem-solving ability, trustworthiness, and strong inter-personal skills. By taking an active role in assessing and considering the parties' positions and interests, Jeff is both challenging and respectful. He is adept at bringing litigants and parties with divergent points of view together -- yet remains neutral and unbiased.
Jeff's practice involves all civil litigation matters, workplace conflicts and business partner disputes. He is a Roster Mediator under the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program for Toronto and has handled a wide variety of cases in the commercial, insurance and employment law areas.
